This Item is in Excellent Condition. Most sellers would list this as "Mint." However, we never list any items as such to err on the side of caution. And we have found no defects, blemishes, or damage on this instrument, aside from some very light pick scratches on the pickguard (see pics). Includes original hard shell case and original receipt of sale when it was purchased new in 2011 from The Mandolin Store by its current (and only) owner.
The Master Model F-5 Fern represents the pinnacle of mandolin craftsmanship, continuing Lloyd Loar's legendary 1922 design. Hand-built with a carved spruce top, flame maple sides and back, this instrument delivers the commanding tone Gibson F-5s are renowned for—powerful projection, articulate chop, and a balanced blend of brightness and warmth. The flame maple neck features a rounded V profile, bound ebony fingerboard, and distinctive fern inlay headstock. A rare opportunity to own an authentic Gibson F-5, an instrument that defined the modern mandolin and remains the gold standard for serious players and collectors.
This particular F-5 is a marvelous find indeed. It is in absolute pristine condition and sounds and plays just as it should (if not better) and features a verified label hand-signed and dated by Gibson Master Luthier David W. Harvey on June 13, 2011. It is a single-owner instrument (we are selling it on consignment for them) and has been kept in climate-controlled, smoke-free storage and only played a handful of times inside the home. The highly figured maple back, sides, and neck are simply stunning and provide exceptional visual appeal to complement the remarkable tonality of the instrument. It is the real deal and one of the few instruments that can still be considered an investment as it has already appreciated in value and is expected to continue to do so, as similar hand-made mandolins from Gibson sell for as much as $20k. This mandolin can be your player or your investment - or both!
