Have you ever purchased a vintage instrument at a premium price, only to turn around and pay hundreds (or thousands) of dollars to a luthier so it plays the way you want it to? This is NOT that guitar. The neck angle is correct, frets are level, and the truss rod and saddle are fully functional. In other words, you are able to set it up the way you like it without any major surgery. It is currently set up with low action (.085" under the low E and .070" under the high E at the 12th fret) and 12-54 strings with no dead spots and perfect intonation. It could possibly be set up even lower if that is your thing and can definitely accommodate different string gauges and a higher action to best suit your playing style and preference. So not only is this a great vintage piece to add to (or start) your collection, but it is also a great player right out of the box. It is truly a special one.
It is inspiring and fun to play and has a lovely, unique voice with a wide dynamic range. With a lighter touch, it sounds warm and mellow but provides plenty of punch and volume when you want it to.
It was built in 1951 in the USA at Gibson's Kalamazoo, Michigan factory. Some examples of these guitars from this era feature different top / back / sides wood combinations but this particular one has a mahogany top with mahogany sides and a maple back, which contributes to its uniqueness and tone / projection. The Factory Order Number (7021 3) and Model Number (L-48) stamps are clearly visible through the F-Holes.
