This item is in very good condition. It was refinished many years ago. The pickguard and pickup covers were painted black. All electrical components and wiring are original and fully functional. Original locking trem system is fully functional but trem arm is not included.
Originally released at the NAMM show in 1958, the Fender Jazzmaster was designed to be a high-end electric jazz guitar. Although it never really caught on among jazz players, it became an instant hit with surf rock players of the time and has since become a staple in the indie rock scene. Notable Jazzmaster players include Thom Yorke, J Mascis, Robert Smith, Lee Ranaldo, Elvis Costello, and Jim Root.
The 1960 Fender Jazzmaster is particularly special due to its floating bridge/anchored tailpiece, floating vibrato, tremolo-locking system, and signature single-coil pickups that are wired into a one-of-a-kind control layout. Notably, it was the first Fender instrument to feature two separate tone circuits. Being one of the earliest versions of the Jazzmaster, this one also features the original cuts and contours, which were a little more extreme than the current iterations. The original penciled date of "9/60" is still visible under the plate under the bridge pickup and all pots and electrical components have been verified and range from 1959 - 1960.
An all-original, complete Jazzmaster from 1960 can fetch up to $20k on the current vintage guitar market. Even ones that have been refinished, such as this one, have recently sold in the range of $9k-$12k. Being that this one is just missing a neck, neckplate, and trem arm, it would be a solid investment or project for anyone looking to own a true piece of Fender history.
